Brewer Appointee Opposes Tax Hike Plan

Secretary of State Ken Bennett says he opposes Gov. Jan Brewer's proposal to raise taxes by $1 billion.  Bennett was appointed to his position by Brewer.

According to The Arizona Republic,

Bennett was applauding Brewer for addressing budget problems but said the state's primary focus should be on "getting the revenues going again."

Rather than a tax increase, Bennett said he would like Arizona to invest in attracting business from states such as California that are raising taxes.

"I'd have 10 (task forces) trying to tell people to bring your business to Arizona," he said.

Despite promises to do so, Brewer has not yet issued a plan to create jobs or, in Bennett's words, get "the revenues going again."
