Vast Majority of Arizonans Say 'Don't Cut Schools'

A KAET-TV/ Cronkite School poll indicates Arizonans strongly support schools.

Capitol Media Services’ Fischer reports:

A new statewide survey shows they do know one area they want lawmakers to leave alone: education…

A tentative plan being pushed by Republican legislative leaders would cut $670 million in spending, on top of $580 million in cuts made just three months ago.

That includes reducing K-12 funding another $352 million on top of $133 million in cuts earlier this year.

“They don't like it,'' pollster Bruce Merrill said of the majority of the 390 registered voters surveyed within the past week. He pointed out that 69 percent of those asked, when given an open-ended question of what one thing should not be cut, named education. Public safety came in a distant second at 10 percent.
